MOVIN, a startup specializing in real-time markerless motion capture technology, has secured seed funding from Naver D2SF, Bluepoint Partners, and Krew Capital. The investment amount remains undisclosed.

MOVIN is developing real-time markerless motion capture technology that eliminates the need for traditional equipment such as body-worn markers or tracking devices. Conventional motion capture systems often require markers attached to people or objects, along with specialized hardware that can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. In contrast, MOVIN is building its own AI model based on a proprietary dataset and leverages a single LiDAR sensor to deliver precise, real-time 3D motion capture.

Notably, MOVIN’s approach—real-time markerless motion capture using LiDAR—is considered a rare technological innovation even in the global market. A paper on the company’s technology was accepted at Pacific Graphics 2023, underscoring its academic and technical recognition.

Currently, MOVIN is working toward launching a closed beta version of MOVIN Studio in the first half of 2024. The software is a desktop application that captures motion using a LiDAR sensor and integrates with 3D modeling platforms such as Unity and Unreal Engine. The company plans to ensure the software is compatible with standard laptops for broader accessibility.

MOVIN is also actively exploring collaborations with companies in live commerce and virtual content production, and is in discussions to expand its partnership with NAVER. At SIGGRAPH 2023 in Los Angeles, MOVIN’s demo received strong interest and positive feedback from global virtual content creators and platform companies.

Founded by Ph.D. candidates from KAIST, the MOVIN team possesses deep expertise in 3D motion graphics and LiDAR-based software technologies. The founding members also bring industry experience from leading organizations such as Meta, Naver Z, and SOSLAB, enabling them to approach product development with strong market insight.

Yang Sang-hwan, Head of NAVER D2SF, commented, “We first met MOVIN through our campus startup competition, and the team impressed us with its differentiated technology, fast execution, and youthful energy. They’ve shown remarkable growth during the incubation period, and we expect them to continue scaling rapidly.”

He added, “In 2024, Naver D2SF will continue to seek out and invest in startups that are pushing boundaries with innovative technologies and products.”
